Some course objectives to keep in mind throughout the semester are the following: Model testing similitude. Effect of waves on resistance and ship motion. Interaction between bodies and ideal fluids. Viscosity and surface tension Why study Marine Hydrodynamics? Studying marine hydrodynamics provides a greater understanding of a wide range of phenomena of considerable complexity involving fluids.
Another benefit is that it allows predictions to be made in many areas of practical importance. Fluid mechanics is a way of looking at a group of particles without having to study each particle separately. A fluid at rest - hydrostatics - is a trivial case of fluid mechanics where no stresses due to fluid motion exist. Fluids have to be moving to be non-trivial.
Fluid mechanics is fundamentally non-linear. The mechanics of Fluids vs. Solids Most of us have taken some courses on solids or related to solids.

The liquid state of matter is used as solvents to dissolve many other solids and liquids and as lubricants such as oils are used to measure temperature-related terms such as gravity, air pressure, etc. In a simpler term, the matter is anything and everything which occupies space and has mass.
Every matter is composed of atoms and other subatomic particles and matter can be seen or felt through more than one sense of the human body. Since there are 4 states of matters known as solid, liquid, gas, and plasma. All these four states have mass, height, length, and width.
Matters also have a feature of attracting other objects with the help of gravity. Both, Solid-state and Liquid state of matters is known as Condensed matters. Solid and Liquid are known as condensed phases because both of them have strong and inter-molecules compare to the gas state. These strong inter-molecules are the reason for their behavior and characteristics in a solid-state and liquid state in the essence of the close relationship between each of them.
The easiest difference between the solid-state and liquid state of matter is that liquid can flow and solid cannot flow because it is rigid.
