Yeah I always just washed a load of dishes after. Mine is a stainless steel tub--is yours? If you have the white plastic kind maybe the smell just sticks to the plastic for longer.
After the dishes washes and rinses a cycle is usually 2 of each right there isn't going to be any of that left in there to get on anything you are using. You are just worrying over nothing. Run you 2 cups of white vinegar through it and then start using it. If you are afraid of the DM use the vinegar from now on. It will help clean it out. There is just no way that is left in there after it rinses a few times.
Do you use Jet Dry? If so it is left on the dishes evrytime you wash them cause it goes in the last rinse--that is why they dry fast. Try doing a load and see if they smell. They will be fine. Thanks to all who posted. I ended up running the dishwasher on a heavy load and dumping two cups of vinegar in there when the machine filled with water. I really appreciate all your help.
My dishwasher is a plastic tub, which, as you all mentioned, is probably the reason the smell persisted after several runs. I am assuming that the vinegar will rid of any remaining Dishwasher Magic product considering that it is used to combat soap scum.
